Activity description

Put your pedal to the metal in search of new world wines on this multi-day MTB tour in Kaho Yai.

A wine tour but not as you know it, explore the Asoke Valley on this MTB tour through the region’s booming viticulture region – stopping to marvel in traditional temples and sample the local tipple, of course. Spend two days riding the trails where vineyards and dairy farms coincide side by side, discovering a wonderful little escape from Bangkok that combines fun bicycle paths with some wine tasting and delicious Thai food.

Location
The Asoke Valley is in Kaho Yai – around a two-hour drive from central Bangkok. An area renowned for its local argrictulture and growing wine growing industry, local landmarks include Bonya Lit Temple, Khao Yai Winery, Wat Tam Tien and Prapatsorn Grape Farm.

Activity
A 38 km MTB off-road experience over 2 days, this tour has been designed for the discerning traveller -  someone that enjoys the countryside, likes to ride a bike and has a penchant for good wine and good food. There are some ups and downs, but generally, the riding is relatively undemanding and requires no technical ability.

Day 1: Meet your guide in Bangkok and travel to Bonya Lite Temple to gear up for a 20km ride. The road is a mixture of dirt and asphalt with lots of potholes as the road winds and undulates through small dairies, tamarind orchards and sheep farms. Ride on to Khao Yai Winery for a vineyard tour before reaching the hotel before dusk.

Day 2: After breakfast travel to Wat Tam Tien Cave and then ride to Prapatsorn Grape Farm. Here you can taste their local grapes and take advantage of the perfect view of White Buddha - sitting 112 metres above ground level. If you are up for the challenge, a walkway with 1,250 steps leads to the base of the statue and the views are well worth the effort. Enjoying a traditional lunch, you will ride through the Asoke Valley where your transport will be waiting to take you back to Bangkok.

Conditions
This trip is a mixture of hard-packed jeep trails and tarmac. An air-conditioned bus travels behind the group and participants can cycle as much or as little as they like. Bike hire is included in the tour. The bikes are engineered with lightweight alloy frames, 24- to 27-speed gearing, v-brakes and Shimano components and front suspension.
