Activity description

Chase waterfalls from source to sea down Don Inthanon Mountain!

What starts as a mountain source at the top of Thailand’s tallest peak soon turns into a torrent of pure white water! Follow it as it transforms from a babbling brook into an impressive cascade, cutting its own path down the side of the northern highlands – and creating wealth, health and happiness for traditional hill tribes along the way!

This activity takes place in Doi Inthanon National Park. Travelling to the summit by car (2,565m), this trek travels from Chiang Mai and makes its way via Naphamethinidon and Naphaphonphumisiri temple, Ban Mae Klang Luang, Vachirathan waterfall and Mae Klang waterfall.

Meet your guide at the activity base in Chiang Mai for this source to sea hike in Don Inthanon National Park. An easy downhill hike for all ages and abilities, groups will be picked up from their accommodation and travel to the top of Don Inthanon mountain by car. At 2,565m, guests will have a chance to explore the summit before you start the hike - visiting the two chedis, one called Naphamethinidon, meaning “by the strength of the land and air”, and the other, Naphaphonphumisiri, meaning “being the strength of the air and the grace of the land”. After this, you will visit the traditional Karen village of Ban Mae Klang Luang and the Hmong market where unique handicraft products are for sale. Lunch will be at a local restaurant. After lunch, you will trek for about two hours through the fields and rice paddies of the Karen people – traversing streams that lead to a series of multi-tiered waterfall cascades.  The highlight of the trip, mark the moment with a few action shots before you head back to the village for a cup of Mae Klang Luang coffee. On the return journey to Chiang Mai, your guide will stop at Sirithan, Vachirathan and Mae Klang waterfalls before dropping you off at your hotel.

Operating during the wet season only (June-October), this trail is considered easy and open to all ages and ability levels. Guests should come prepared with adequate water, sun protection and broken-in trek boots or trail trainers.
