A whitewater ride where risk meets reward, conquer one of the world’s most impressive rivers on this rafting trip down the infamous White Nile. An experience reserved for the adventurous at heart, this 25km journey down the thunderous grade III-V is made to shake you out of your seat at leave you weak at the knees!
Operating on a section of the River Nile between Jinja and Kampala, this activity travels from Bujagali Dam on an III-V rapid run near Lake Victoria. Water level dependent, there are 3 line choices that range in difficulty – travelling on renowned rapids like Vengeance, Hair of the Dog and Kulu Shake.
Meet your rafting guide in Jinja for a half day or full day whitewater rafting experience on the River Nile. An hour transfer to the river embarkment area by Bujagali Dam, start with comprehensive safety training and techniques before you hit the water with your in-boat guide. For the few hours, you’ll be relentlessly paddling on some of the most exciting whitewater in the world! Organised according to age and ability, choose between the grade 4+ Chop Suey and grade 4 Retrospect – following a flatwater section to Bubgo and Itanda Falls! If you have booked half day, this where your adventure ends, otherwise a quick lunch pit stop on the banks will be followed by 3 rapids in quick succession, Vengeance, Hair of the Dog and Kulu Shaker, all similar grade 3/4 wave trains - all incredibly fun! The last rapid of the day - Nile Special - is a series of 3 incredible waves all named after beer, Nile Special, Bell's hole and Club wave! After the last set of rapids, you will reach the takeout area where you can enjoy light refreshments before returning to your accommodation.
The White Nile River run is a physically demanding and challenging experience for adventurous first-timers. Please note that Itanda is a mandatory portage, being much too dangerous for commercial rafting, however, the bottom third of the rapid known as the 'Bad Place' is rafted. Water level dependent there are 3 line choices here all depending how brave you are feeling! Age restrictions apply.
Class III: Rapids with moderate, irregular waves, strong eddies and powerful currents
Class V: Extremely long, obstructed, or very violent rapids which expose a paddler to added risk. Drops may contain large, unavoidable waves and holes or steep, congested chutes with complex, demanding routes.
