Activity description

Test your teamwork on this challenging whitewater rafting excursion on the River Garry near Fort William.

Paddle together to tackle one of Scotland’s most exciting grade III rivers on this whitewater rafting excursion in the Great Glen. One of the only places you can raft all year round, during the summer the Garry River is given its signature rapids and regulated by an upstream dam, meaning water levels are never an issue and the routes signature bumps and bends are always navigable.

Location
Based in Lochaber, The Outdoor Capital of the UK, the activity centre is on the shores of Loch Oich -  only 10 miles from local landmarks like Loch Ness and Fort Augustus.  The River Garry runs through the Great Glen and Fort William, a region renowned for its iconic lakes and wild landscape in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. A two-hour drive from Inverness, Citylink run regular services from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Oban and Skye. You can also get a bus directly from Glasgow Airport to Fort William (twice a day in the summer).

Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base for this two-hour white water rafting excursion on the River Garry. Suitable for young families from 8 years old and groups of friends alike, start your adventure by kitting up with a wetsuit and paddling equipment – heading down to the embankment area where you’ll leave the safety of the shores and start practising you’re paddling technique. With a lead guide in each raft, they’ll help you steer and navigate a series of fast flowing rapids and white water – dodging rocks and obstructions along the way. Working as a team to ensure you all stay safely in the raft – be prepared to get wet as you slide down natural toboggans, slalom through rocky intersections and bounce along the banks- working your way to the end of the course where you’ll be transported back to the activity base.

Conditions
The River Garry is a fantastic fun and adventurous river with great grade 3 and 4 rapids. The main reason for it being so popular is due to the releases of water from the dam every week from April until October.
Class III: Rapids with moderate, irregular waves, strong eddies and powerful currents.
Class IV: Intense, powerful but predictable rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water.

Absolutely brilliant fun! We had such a great time. It was our first holiday as a family: My partner, my 11-year-old son and I. This was definitely a highlight of the week. We will definitely be recommending it to others.
