A beach break that has become the most popular spot on the Causeway Coast, learn how to surf like a local from Portrush – a place where the party atmosphere extends from shore to shore! Considered one of the best beaches in Northern Ireland, this rocky headland is famed for its rolling whitewater and waist height waves.
Location
This activity takes place on Portrush beach on the Causeway Coast. A seaside town on the Northern Irish peninsular, this town is only 1 hour from the centre of Belfast and close to local landmarks like Ballycastle to Magilligan Head.
Activity
Meet your instructor at the activity base in Portrush for this two-hour beginner’s surf lesson. A group lesson on one of the area’s best beaches, kit up with wetsuits and boards before you hit the sand and get started. Learn about beach safety, warm up with some quick exercises and practise your standing series - then head into the waves where your instructor will give you tips and tricks to help you ride small whitewater - improving your balance, placement and board control. As you improve, learn how to paddle in and catch a wave, popping up and riding into the shore. Once your lesson is over, you will return to the activity base for light refreshments and a warm shower at the end.
Conditions
Portrush is a long beach break with shallow water and waist-height waves, lessons are organised according to the tide to ensure the ideal conditions for beginners – ensuring whitewater and gentle currents.
