Explore new horizons and touch the void with ice climbing excursions in the company of La Pietra Guide, Giovanni Olivieri.
Working in the heart of the Italian Alps for the last 10 years, Giovanni Olivieri is an experienced and highly knowledgeable Mountain Guide. Part of the organisation La Pietra, Giovanni has spent his professional career and personal free time exploring the most dramatic landscapes in Europe and afar.
UIAGM ( International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations) certified, Giovanni has been running and organising mountaineering experiences in the Alps since 2008 - offering seasoned climbers and adventurous beginners a chance to explore some of the lesser known crags and ice walls of Italy's largest glacier - Pian di Neve, Adamello.
One of the original hiking and mountaineering terrains that dates back to the birth of the sport itself, the Adamello mountain range and the Pian di Neve glacier (the largest in Italy with over 18 square kilometres) has long been considered as the first and best ice climbing location in Italy.
High altitudes and usually low temperatures in these valleys exposed mostly to the north make the ice climbing season long and more generous than other parts of the mountain range. Val d'Avio, Val Paghera, Val Saviore, Passo del Tonale and Ponte di Legno are the possible locations for ice climbing, all immersed in the beautiful Val Camonica near the Tonale Pass.
Offering a range of challenging ice climbing excursions for experienced climbers or extreme sports nomads looking to pick up a new skill, head to the upper Camonica Valley near Brescia for heart racing alpine pursuits, courtesy of a regional expert - Giovanni Olivieri.
