Safari Par Excellence

Founded by Steve McCormick from Zimbabwe, Safari Par Excellence or “Safpar” as they are affectionately known, took over from where the legendary Sobek Rafting company had left off, after running the first commercial rafting expeditions on the Zambezi in 1981.

Back in those wild days, the first descents ran with no helmets and no safety kayakers! In 1992, Zambia and adventure beckoned. Like most other start-up companies, Safpar had a humble beginning, with just a couple of ex-military vehicles, half a dozen canoes, a tent or two and a big bag of dreams! The one thing they had in bucket loads was a passion to explore and enjoy.

As the years passed Safpar grew from strength to strength venturing into the Lower Zambezi Valley for a while, but always being drawn back to the Victoria Falls and the sheer adrenaline rush that is rafting the Zambezi. In 1997, Sven Bolton with his enthusiasm for this great river joined the team.

In 1999, Graham Nel joined the team as the fearless MD and they opened The Victoria Falls Waterfront headed up by Sharmaine Barry - after all, us Rafters need somewhere to stay and obviously enjoy a cold beer after a great day on the Zambezi!

In 2001, Tony King an ex-Overland driver joined the team as the Operations Manager, always behind the scenes, making sure those unexpected problems do not become your problem!

As Livingstone expanded and the tourism market evolved, 2005 saw the opening of the stunning David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa, in a class of its own. Pre and post rafting accommodation could not get any better.

So there you have it – Safari Par Excellence built in Zambia, with a proud history and a strong reputation within the local business community, run and operated by people who live in Zambia!
