Prazer do Mar, the company's legal name, translates as Pleasure of the Sea. They have chosen this name to emphasize what the core of the business is. VMT Madeira was created in 2004 with the goal of providing trips in order to experience the beauty of the coast.

That same year they started operating their first catamaran, Sea Pleasure. Then in 2008, a second ship was bought, the Sea The Best, increasing the total places available to 168 people. This way they responded to a growing number of tourists interested in discovering Madeira from the sea.

Since 2013, the commercial brand VMT Madeira – Viagens Marítimo-Turísticos (Madeiran Touristic sea trips) has been operating, with the idea of making it easier to identify the company. Over the last decade, the company has had a sustainable growth that led to the investment in yet another new catamaran, with a bigger capacity than the first two combined. Sea Nature is a double-decker catamaran, re-built in 2014 in Lagos, Algarve, with capacity for 220 people.
