Cousteau Reserve: What to do when you get there ?

Discover the activities to do in the Cousteau Reserve! A protected marine area along the west coast of Basse-Terre, the Cousteau Reserve has an exceptional biodiversity to discover in Guadeloupe!

Stretching from Pointe-Noire to Bouillante, as well as around the islets Pigeon, the Cousteau Reserve is a must-see place to discover in Guadeloupe for its rich underwater fauna and flora. The water of the Caribbean Sea oscillates around 26°C in this natural reserve, making it an ideal place for water sports activities. One of the key activities in the Cousteau Reserve is of course scuba diving to discover its superb aquatic world! Many diving clubs offer introductory or exploratory trips in the heart of the Bouillante marine nature reserve. But you can also choose to observe the sea turtles yourself, for example by snorkeling from Malendure beach, or by hiring a transparent sea kayak! As for the two small islands forming the îlets Pigeon of the Cousteau Reserve, they can be approached by canoe kayak, stand up paddle, but also by jet ski if you want more thrills!

The commune of Bouillante, where the Cousteau Reserve is located, is a place renowned for its hot baths by the sea, next to small pebble and black sand beaches. It is therefore ideal to return from a hike in the Guadeloupe National Park around the Soufrière volcano or the Mamelles peaks and come back to the commune of Bouillante to relax in the hot water! The black sandy beaches of Malendure and Petite Anse offer a beautiful setting to relax on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Bouillante is also a starting point for boat trips to see dolphins and other cetaceans in the Caribbean Sea, a must-do activity during a stay in the Lesser Antilles! Finally, the view from the Anse à Barque lighthouse, on the border between Bouillante and Vieux-Habitants, offers a splendid view of the sea and the coast of Basse-Terre, especially at sunset. A great way to end a day spent in the commune and the Cousteau Reserve.

If you are a nature lover or a diver, it is essential to go to the Cousteau Reserve in Bouillante and Pointe-Noire to admire one of the most beautiful maritime sites in Guadeloupe!
