Morne-à-l'Eau: What to do when you get there ?

Discover the activities to do in Morne-à-l'Eau! Facing the Grand Cul-de-sac marine nature reserve, Morne-à-l'Eau is an unmissable destination in Guadeloupe!

Located in Grande-Terre, south of Petit-Canal, Morne-à-l'Eau is a commune made up of plains and marshy lands. It is also famous for its mangrove swamp along the Rotours canal, which you must see! Excursions by canoe, stand up paddle or small boat will allow you to navigate as close as possible to the mangrove, in a singular environment where land crabs are hidden. Morne-à-l'Eau is also known as the city of crabs in Guadeloupe!

At the exit of the Rotours channel, several wild islets are available to you when you enter the Grand Cul-de-sac marin bay: the Macou, Rat and Jacques islets. Here, no white sand beach, but still mangrove! This does not prevent the water from being a bewitching turquoise blue, inviting you to swim and snorkel. The Grand Cul-de-sac marine nature reserve is a paradise for discovering a rich and varied fauna and flora, always from your canoe, stand up paddle or boat!

Despite its lack of beach paradise, Morne-à-l'Eau is famous for its Babin beach where it is possible to take mud baths to relax and enjoy the benefits of this practice. The town is also visited for its cemetery, renowned for its distinctive black and white chequered mausoleums, as well as its Pitt à Coqs Belair museum to learn about cockfighting, an important part of Guadeloupean culture.

If you're passing through Morne-à-l'Eau during your stay in Grande-Terre, plan some water activities to admire the mangrove, as well as a trip to town to learn more about Guadeloupe and its culture!

C'est vraiment une activité que je recommande pour son côté nature, le calme dans la mangrove et la découverte des lieux. Vraiment magique et bien mieux que la découverte des lieux en bateau à moteur !

Mat did an excellent job of training us to paddle board and leading us along a very nteresting route around and through the mangroves

We enjoyed our kayaking trip to the mangroves. The guide was pleasant and knowledgeable. I was hoping to kayak a bit more than 5.8km, although it was no doubt plenty for those without kayaking experience.
