Ardeche: The Must-Do Activities

Ardeche: What to do when you get there?

Ardèche is a department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Its name derives from a river that crosses through the area.

There is a huge contrast between the north and south of Ardèche, you won’t find the same earth, climate, vegetation and landscapes in both areas. The north is relatively damp and green, whereas the south is rather chalky and dry with Mediterranean vegetation.

The department contains extensive forests - more than 45% of the terrain is covered by forests, making it a hot spot for mountain bikers. The riding trails are surrounded by lush greenery and stunning multi-coloured flowers. One of the most popular routes starts at Lalouvesc and ends at Vallée du Rhone. 130 km of enduro with itineraries marked blue, red and black, similar to those found on ski slopes.

Ardèche is a vast playground for adrenaline junkies. There's a plethora of activities that can be adapted to all age ranges, skill levels, and experience. You’re guaranteed to find something to whet your daredevil’s appetite.

There are numerous multi-pitch routes that appeal to climbers far and wide. There are also many via ferrata itineraries that provide breath-taking panoramas on the entire region.

The Gorges du Doux Velorail are an absolute pleasure for canyoners, enabling them to get up-close and personal with nature. Hire a local canyoning instructor for the day who will point out the hidden marvels, whilst telling you stories about the region and its history.

Ardèche contains 7 spectacular caves that are peppered with splashes of bright colours and natural formations. Through caving, you’ll get to see the mysterious underworld that has been an utter secret for so long.

The Parc Aquatique du Lac located in Devesset has an inflatable slide, trampoline and climbing wall, making it an ideal spot for families.
