La Rochelle: The Must-Do Activities

La Rochelle: What to do when you get there?

La Rochelle is the second biggest city of the Charente Maritime department. It’s a city that never lets its visitors get bored, as there’s always something fun and exciting to do.

Full of cultural heritage, this port city will charm you with its architecture and old city.

The towers located on the Vieux-Port are THE attraction to visit in La Rochelle. Built in order to protect the entry of the port, they welcome thousands of visitors each year. Many other monuments, museums and an aquarium are also worth visiting during your stay in the city.

You can also explore the Île de Ré which is connected to the continent by a bridge. In the north of the island, you will find the Lilleau de Niges National Natural Reserve. This wonderful place is home to many different waterbirds, some of them being vulnerable species.

An energetic city par excellence, La Rochelle hosts many sports events every year, such as the Red Bull Cliff Diving. The goal of the competition is for participants to dive from one of the towers of the port. Usually from a height of 27 metres – guaranteed to get your heart racing!

La Rochelle also offers a plethora of extreme sports, notably water sports. You can practice kitesurfing, windsurfing, SUP, scuba diving and many more!

If you enjoy slides and speed, get on an amazing Jetski excursion on the Atlantic Ocean provided by AMR Location. For more thrills, try out a flyboarding or hoverboarding session and fly above the water! And if you prefer to explore the submarine life, take a plunge for an adventure dive and swim around the marine wildlife of the Atlantic!

With a dynamic maritime life and numerous aquatic activities, La Rochelle is truly a city that never sleeps!
