Esmoriz: What to do when you get there?

Esmoriz is a town in northern Portugal, located only 25 kilometers south of Porto.You will be enchanted by its fine sandy beaches and old fishermen's houses.

Fishing remains very present in the north of Esmoriz beach. So if you prefer to find a spot where you can bathe and practice nautical activities, go to southern Esmoriz on Praia do Barrinha beach.

In Esmoriz, there is also a 396 ha coastal salt water lagoon. It is part of the Natura 2000 network that aims to protect terrestrial and marine sites in the European Union. Here, you will have the chance to observe species such as the capped heron, the sanderling and the black-headed gull, among others.

The city is situated less than 30 minutes drive from Porto, the second biggest city in Portugal. It is a great opportunity to visit the numerous tourist attractions of this beautiful city listed in the UNESCO world heritage. You can discover Porto by getting on a wonderful boat ride on the Douro river or on a hop-on hop-off bus tour. On the splendid beaches, you can practice many water sports including surfing, the major sportfor the inhabitants of Porto.

Only 50 km south of Esmoriz, you can also visit the city of Aveiro. The ria de Aveiro is a large lagoon which covers an area of approx. 75 km². It is home to numerous bird species and is known for being the Portuguese Venice. So if you are staying with your partner, you should definitely spend some time in Aveiro city!

The main sport to practice in Esmoriz is of course surfing. Learn how to surf on the best beaches in a surfcamp or during surfing lessons.
