Sesimbra: What to do when you get there ?

Sitting at the foothills of Serra da Arrábida, Sesimbra is an important fishing town, that also happens to be renowned for its stunning beaches, delicious seafood restaurants and animated nightlife.

This seaside resort is a great destination for people looking to get away for a long weekend or spending their summer holidays.

Sesimbra is one of the closest and most popular scuba diving spots to Lisbon, famous for housing the wreck of the River Gurara, a Nigerian cargo ship that sunk in 1989 losing 45 members of its crew. The wreck is only one of the reasons why scuba divers flock to Sesimbra from around the globe. Its spectacular marine life and welcoming warm waters are 2 other reasons.

Paragliders can get a bird’s eye view of the stunning sandy bay and steep cliffs, distinct to this area. See the beach town from above and put a different spin on your sightseeing tour.

Ramblers, hikers and mountain bikers can get the most out of Sesimbra’s natural beauty by visiting the popular Arrábida National Park.

It was my first time scuba diving and definitely not the last time. I’ve learned a lot and saw a lot of fish, plants and other animals. A great experience I won’t forget!!!

It started with wearing a wet suit and it felt worse than wearing clothes two sizes small. When we actually went into the water, it was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen.

I have seen it all: sea star, octopus, fish, anemone. Great colors. I have even an empty shell.

The organisation on the ground was very chaotic. There was a group of divers who came at same time to the same boat, and the instructions on who’s going to be my diving guide and how do I get my diving gear or when to change it was not clear until it had to happen, then I had to hurry to change my clothes to wetsuit. Once I was in water everything went smoothly, and once we got back from the dive the instructions were clear. It was a really good experience, I’m happy that I went for this activity, and I would do it again. This chaotic organization was not good for my taste, but overall I would do it again if I could.
