Visit the world's highest sand dunes and oldest desert in this wondrous three day tour of Namibia's iconic landscapes.
Day 1: Sesriem Campsite, Sossusvlei
An expert local guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Windhoek between 8:00 and 8:30 AM. Together you will travel by car over the Eros Mountains and along scenic roads heading south-west to the desert. Passing over the Naukluft Mountains, your guide will explain their significance to Namibia's ancient geological history. You will continue heading down by way of the beautiful Remhoogte Pass, where you will eventually reach the tiny settlement of Solitaire. Finally, you will cross open grass savannah and farmlands before the terrain gives way to an immense red sand dune desert of the Namib. You will aim to arrive at camp during the late afternoon where you can watch colors glow and change over the mountains to the east.
The Sesriem Campsite is located at the entry to Sossusvlei. It is perfect for campers who want to experience the beauty of the Namib Desert. In the evening, you can sit by the fire while enjoying the barking Geckos and distant howl of the Jackal. The one hour before sunrise) for a drive to the Sossusvlei where you can climb a sand dune and watch the colours change as the sun rises over the horizon slipping its morning warmth over the Namib desert dunes.
Day 2: Sesriem Campsite, Sossusvlei
The day begins early -one hour before sunrise- to catch the soft light of the sun rising over the desert. After passing through Sesriem, a gateway to the dunes, you will head into the heart of the dune field. Here you will reach Sossusvlei on foot, trekking the last 5 km through the dunes. This trek provides incredible landscape with abundant photo opportunities of the blazing orange light across the desert. You can also catch sight of the ancient mineral pans, stunted camel thorn trees and with chance, a gemsbok or ostrich! The morning will be spent in and around Sossusvlei with a visit to Dune 45, renowned for its elegant shape. You will return to Sesriem for lunch, escaping the heat of the afternoon. In the late afternoon, you will take a short excursion to the Sesriem Canyon.
Day 3: Depature
After breakfast, you will begin the journey back to Windhoek following a different route. You will ascend the massive Gamsberg then pass the Khomas Hochland Mountain Range. You can expect to be back in Windhoek by late afternoon where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
