Descripción de la actividad

Join the specialists in private heli-ski tours, exclusively chose from thousands of kilometres of untouched skiing terrain so your group will have the very best day out.

Harris Mountain Heliski offers the ultimate convenience and flexibility for your group, ensuring your level and desires are catered for. Tackle steep, tough terrain, skip from mountain to mountain or take more of a scenic route. The choice is yours!

Please note that fly time is only when you're in the helicopter going up, this means when the helicopter is on the ground with the engine running you are not paying. Only when the helicopter lifts off does the clock start. 1.5-2 hours fly time gives you a whole day of skiing!

There are three time period options:

Option 1:

  • Max 4 people
  • 1.5 hours flight time
  • 8-12 runs

Option 2:

  • Max 4 people
  • 2 hours flight time
  • 10-15 runs

Option 3:

- Early in the morning your guide will check the weather and will then contact you to confirm the heli-ski trip is on, and to set a pickup time.
- You'll be picked up at your accommodation and driven to the staging area, where you’ll be introduced to your pilot, guide and fellow heli-skiers.

- All heli-ski groups meet together for an alpine buffet lunch and some downtime to relax and talk about the morning’s action.
- After that, you'll go back to the ultimate ski experience - more heli-ski runs to finish off your perfect day in the mountains.
- At the end of the day, you'll be driven from the staging area back to your accommodation for a well-deserved rest or a quick change before your après ski evening in Queenstown or Wanaka.

How well do I have to ski to go heli-skiing?
Ideally you are a strong intermediate skier/boarder or better, with a sense of adventure. 'Strong intermediate' means you can easily ski all the blue runs at your home ski field, and can generally ski the black runs, even if you find them challenging.

Harris Mountains Heli-Ski has exclusive access to a wide range of terrain, from easy rolling slopes for powder first-timers to challenging chutes and steep valleys for the more experienced.

Do I need powder skis?
Wide-body powder skis or all-mountain skis are the preferred choice for your heli-ski trip. This style of ski allows you to handle a wide range of snow conditions, faster, easier and with more stability. All of the guides use these and they’re wonderful for those wanting to go longer and harder in more advanced terrain. You don’t have to own your own powder skis – talk to the HMH team and they can recommend a variety of hire equipment retailers.

How long are the runs?
Run length varies depending on the terrain and snow conditions, from 600 vertical metres to as much as 1300 vertical metres of skiing. On average, run length ranges from 800-1000 vertical metres.

What about safety equipment?
HMH takes every precaution to ensure that clients are properly equipped and prepared for their day in the backcountry.  Harris Mountains Heli-ski provides all guests with AV transceivers, and clients are required to complete a safety briefing before the start of their heli-ski trip. In that briefing you'll be taught the use of avalanche transceivers, helicopter and mountain safety.

Is it possible to get a video of my heli-ski day?
Professional video-guides are available on request to ski with your group and capture the day’s adventures on digital video.
