A landscape where the lynx roams wild and free, watch your step in Risnjak National Park!
Leave nothing but footprints on this scenic hiking excursion in Croatia’s lesser known natural wonder. Home to populations of apex predators that include wolves, bears and the elusive European lynx, this dense forest also offers some of the best views in Croatia – with horizons framed by dramatic peaks, turquoise seas and rustic shrubland.
Risnjak National Park is located in Gorski Kotar, the most mountainous and heavily forested region of the country, about 15 km inland from the Adriatic Sea and the Dalmatian island of Krk. The park covers an area of 63.5 square kilometres including the central part of Risnjak and Snježnik massif and the source area of the river Kupa.
Meet your guide at the foot of the mountain for this hiking excursion in Risnjak National Park. A fun and informative way of discovering a natural landscape lesser known by tourists, this full day trek and trail follows a route that leads to the area’s highest peaks at Veliki Risnjak and Snjeznik. A region that has been left to nature, this densely forested national park is packed with biodiversity – and is home to endemic flora and fauna that includes wolves, brown bears and lynx! Follow your guide along a marked woodland path – visiting sun-bathed meadows, numerous springs, streams, magnificent hills and mountains and wonderful vistas that include the Hrvatsko Primorje region, Gorski Kotar, and if you are lucky and the weather is perfect, you just might see the Alps, too! Suitable for groups of friends and families alike – routes can be organised to cover trails that take up to 8 hours to complete, stopping for lunch at turquoise lakes and stopping to take in the views. Once you have completed the tour, your shuttle will be waiting to take you back to your accommodation in Krk.
Organised according to age and ability, this tour operated from May-September. Itineraries can be amended to suit the needs of each group and whilst walking boots are highly recommended, trails follow a sign-posted mountain path.
The guides will adjust the trip to your level!
Please note: This activity operates with a 4 person minimum per tour.
