Preikestolen (the Pulpit Rock), the most famous tourist attraction in Ryfylke. Close to the town of Stavanger, it towers an impressive 604 metres over the Lysefjord (42-kilometre long fjord). Hiking routes to the summit start at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. From Stavanger, you can take a ferry from to Tau, or take car ferry from Lauvvik to Oanes. Parking fees may apply.
Meet your nature guide in Stavanger (or organise to be picked up from your accommodation) for a 6-hour twilight hiking trip to Pulpit Rock. Start your day in the midst of darkness and hike with headlamps through the morning twilight on trails that have recently been upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas. Follow an 8-kilometre route with a total ascent of 500 meters to Preikestolen before the crowds of tourists arrive, and watch the sunrise over the mountain. Suitable for participants who are generally in good physical condition & have previous hiking experience, this challenging trek to this stunning natural viewpoint over the Lysefjord is organised in small groups to ensure an intimate, private viewing of the sunrise free from the crowds - finish off the morning with a well-deserved brunch in a traditional mountain lodge.
This route is hilly, with some steeper, rocky sections where good eye/hand/feet coordination is required. With a steep elevation, the trail conditions are varied with wooden/stone staircases, bridges, railings and narrower, more technical, parts with mostly firm and stable surfaces.
