Description de l'activité
This unique helicopter flight will take you through the coast of Kaikoura to view earthquake damage from the 2016 magnitude 7.8 earthquake.
This 40 min helicopter flight showcases natures force, the geological and environmental changes to Kaikoura coastal areas, mountain ranges, rivers and infrastructure.
This is a great tour for those interested in the effects of the November 2016 earthquake. A massive recovery effort has occurred in Kaikoura since that can be better understood and seen from the bird’s eye view. During this flight, you will see the impressive Papatea Fault, visible along the coastline heading out into the sea. You will fly above the Hapuku River Dam that was created during the earthquake, the Clarence Valley damages, and the changes and repairs along State Highway 1 North.
Your pilot will explain how much has been accomplished and point out the slips and changes to both the Inland and Seaward Kaikoura Ranges and State Highway 1. Your landing site will be an area recreated by the earthquake, for an even more comprehensive experience.
