Description de l'activité
Travel in style from Queenstown on this snow plane & backcountry ski adventure on Tasman Glacier.
Experience some of New Zealand’s best backcountry terrain without the three hour drive time on this snow plane & ski adventure in Mt. Cook National Park. Enjoy a scenic flight from Queenstown to Mt. Cook – touching down on Tasman Glacier for a two-run descent that covers New Zealand’s longest and most dramatic off-piste area!
This activity is run & operated from Queenstown Airport and travels to Mt. Cook National Park via snow plane. Reaching the Tasman Glacier, this two-run package includes an 8km & 10km run on unpisted, varying terrain.
Meet your pilot at the airport in Queenstown for this full-day backcountry ski adventure on Mt. Cook’s Tasman Glacier. Travelling to Mt. Cook/Aoraki on a 40-minute scenic transfer, appreciate the sheer scale of the Southern Alps as you touch down in the shadow of its tallest peak – joining your guide for the main event. Starting off with a quick kit check and safety breakdown, you will set off from the airbase and travel into the national park – performing a snow landing on the glacier. Following a lead guide, experience an 8km unpisted run suitable for intermediate skiers - varying between open snowfields, deep bowls, and ‘canyons’ between seracs. Stopping for a wild picnic on the glacier, your pilot will circle round to pick you up – reaching a higher altitude for the ultimate 10km run. Side adventures to visit amazing ice caves and natural ice features like Darwin Icefall are a highlight of the trip. A powder discovery day, enjoy unique ski-throughs and wide sloping glaciers in the crown of the Southern Alps –returning to the airbase in Mt. Cook for your air transfer back to Queenstown.
The ski runs are long (8-10km) with up to a thousand-metre vertical drop, and the skiing is at a very relaxed pace to allow plenty of time to absorb the wilderness. Due to the degree of traversing required at times, snowboarders are not permitted on this tour.

All snow is ungroomed and variable. Powder is more common in July, through mid August. Spring conditions are typical through September. However, the Tasman can get a fresh powder top-up with any winter storm. New Zealand’s temperate maritime climate means conditions change quickly, even over a single day!Itinéraire
