Considered one of Europe’s last wild places, Peneda-Gerês National Park is a landscape where wolves roam free and remote villages stand proud on mountain tops. Travel to Ermida deep in the park at its most northerly point – hiking through diverse topography that winds through the sculpted valleys of Serra Amarela from Portugal’s second largest city.

This activity is run and operated from Porto and travels to Peneda-Gerês National Park.  Located an hour’s drive from the city centre, the itinerary to local landmarks that include Ermida traditional village, Gerês, Tahiti waterfall & Pedra Branca.

Renowned for its wild landscape, rural villages and rugged beauty, this protected area offers insight into Portugal’s wild side – a conservation area renowned for its deer, wolves and golden eagles. Home to some of the country’s most historical monuments, follow the PR14 into the mountains of Peneda – learning more about the area’s natural heritage and cultural history. Starting in the 12th-century village of Ermida, the cobbled Roman paths and rural pastoral land are punctuated by crumbling ruins and age-old granary buildings – leading to Tahiti Waterfall where you can enjoy the view or take a swim. Set to a casual pace, experience the sights, sounds and cuisine of Portugal’s proudest national park – savouring local delicacies in Gêres and experiencing some of the best views in the park for little known lookouts. Stopping at points of interest along the way, weave through forest tracks and secret trails – crossing mountains to reach peaks that overlook the towns below.

Conditions
Run from Porto, this activity is suitable for all ages and abilities – travelling from Ermida to Villa do Geres on a 14km route.  With several swimming spots along the way, swimwear and good walking shoes are recommended.
