Description de l'activité

Discover paradise on this snorkelling trip to Tumbatu Island!

A seldom-visited dot of sand that might not look like much from the surface, dive down and discover one of the most diverse coral reefs on the Zanzibar coast on this snorkelling excursion to Tumbatu Island. Rich with marine life that enjoys life undisturbed by mass tourism, this unique dive site is home to beautiful brain-like corals and a rainbow of tropical fish – a protected reef that’s packed with life!

Location
Tumbatu Island is a remote island off the coast of Nungwi in Zanzibar. Considered the most beautiful coral garden in Northern Zanzibar, the reef starts at 3m and slopes gently down to 12m.

Activity
Zanzibar’s best-kept secret, meet your guide in Nungwi for this snorkelling excursion to Tumbatu Island. A remote island with an extended reef renowned for its diverse corals, this trip is ideal for groups of friends and families alike – allowing guests to experience the diversity of Zanzibar’s famed dive sites without the need for a scuba diving qualification. A half day experience that departs from Nuguwi, head to the outer lying reef where you can’t jump right in – exploring the shallow corals and looking out for distinctive species that include Turtles, leaf Fish,  Octopuses,  Scorpion Fish,  Moray Eels and Nudibranchs. Whilst access to the island is under strict rule by tribal elders, you will be able to take a tour by boat – travelling along the stunning shoreline before you head back to Zanzibar – returning to the port by 2pm.

Conditions
Organising snorkelling excursions throughout the year, Tumbutu is considered a safe, shallow and accessible dive site for non-divers thanks to its lack of current, vibrant marine life and great visibility (10-30ft) All three dive sites, Shetani, Popabawa & Mwana have spectacular, flourishing corals reefs, with a large variety of both soft and hard corals.
