Try the combination of quad biking and glacier hiking at Mýrdalsjökull glacier for an unforgettable day of adventure in Iceland!
Combining a quad bike ride on the beach of Sólheimasandur and a glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier, this day trip is the ideal way to experience and discover southern Iceland, on the edge of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap. Led by a local guide who knows the region inside out, you will visit 2 very different, yet very close, environments: a wide black sand beach and an expanse of ice.
The first part of the excursion will take place in the saddle of easy-to-handle quad bikes, available to 17-year-olds (if you have a driving license). You will set off towards a volcanic sand beach, but also towards a well-known aircraft wreck in the region, a Douglas DC-3. This 2-hour quad bike ride on the Sólheimasandur beach is the perfect start to the adventure, which continues on the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue.
For almost 2 and a half hours, you will embark on a glacier hike on Mýrdalsjökull, and more specifically on the Sólheimajökull glacier. With the help of your guide and all the equipment you need for the activity (helmet, harness, crampons and ice axe), you will make your way across the ice to admire unique landscapes while learning more about the history and evolution of this frozen world.

- Return to base and de-equipping
- Next meeting at the Icelandic Mountain Guides Sólheimajökull base (approx. 10-minute drive, going with your own vehicule)
- Briefing on the second activity and safety instructions
- Equipment for the second part of the excursion: the glacier hike on Sólheimajökull
- Approach walk to the glacier (approx. 15 minutes)
- Departure for approximately 2.5 hours walk on the glacier
- Return walk to base (approx. 15 minutes), de-equipping and debriefing over coffee or tea
Activity requirements
Minimum driving age: 17 years old
A physical valid driver’s license is compulsory for drivers.
Please arrive 30 minutes before the start of the activity.
Hiking boots must be worn: it will not be possible to add the crampons required for the activity to other footwear.
It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof, so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.
Special terms
The price of the activity is per quad, not per person. A quad can carry up to 2 people (Driver + Adult passenger - from 17 years old OR Young passenger - from 8 to 16 years old).
