Activity description

Head out onto Altafjord for your chance to witness some of the world's largest mammals - close up!

Experience one of the largest marine migrations in the world and travel to Atlafjord for this whale watching experience! The winter feeding grounds for large numbers of ocean giants, including orca and humpback whales - get close enough to capture a breach on this fjord tour!

Location
This activity is run and operated from Alta city centre and travels to Altafjord. Meeting point is Explorer Store, 100 meters from Scandic and 200 meters from Thon Hotel.

Activity
Meet at the activity base for this whale watching tour in Altafjord. An important pitstop on the annual migration into the Arctic, sustainable fishing standards have improved cetacean sightings in the fjord over recent years - making it one of the most popular activities in Alta! Head out on your tour of the fjord, suiting up with protective clothing and jumping into a RIB boat with your experienced guide. For the next few hours, you'll cruise into popular feeding grounds, scanning the horizon for your chance to spot a fin, tail or even a full breach! What's more, your guide will be on hand to explain more about the natural heritage and human legacy of the area - from the part it played in WWII to its UNESCO-protected cave drawings. Returning to Alta, mark the moment with hot drinks and snack with the crew, watching the sunset before heading back to your accommodation.
