Activity description

Ever wondered what it would be like to paddle along with pods of dolphins or watch a whale crest the surface - spraying you with water from its blowhole? Now's your chance with sea kayaking excursions in Plettenberg Bay.

Combining technical skill building with marine conservation, sea kayaking along Robberg Nature Reserve is an inviting and unintrusive way of getting to know the locals - whether they're cheeky Fur Seals or friendly Bottlenose Dolphins, the western cape's marine residents are just as curious as you are...

Location
Situated in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, Plettenberg Bay is a 2hr drive from Port Elizabeth on the eastern cape. Part of the Robberg Nature Reserve World Heritage Site on the Garden Route, a sanctuary for birdlife, land animals and marine life.

Activity
After a safety briefing and masterclass in sea kayaking techniques, you will set off from Central Beach on two-man kayaks and travel along the coast - enjoying a 2-hour guided tour and views of the majestic Tsitsikamma mountains, Robberg Nature Reserve, and marine life. Whale sightings seasonal (July - October).

Conditions
An exposed beach break with a consistent clean swell, the choppy surf can make paddling out difficult when the wind is onshore. February is the hottest month in Plettenberg Bay with an average temperature of 21°C (70°F) and the coldest is June at 14°C (57°F).
